Members of What the What jazz-funk group in a studio looking up at microphones

Thurs, December 29 | 3pm | $20
CCA Gallery, 1050 Old Pecos Trail

Instrumental funk trio What The What returns joyously to the CCA with a special guest on saxophone, Kanoa Kaluhiwa. What The What normally brings around its slightly quirky and buoyant world-funk in a sprightly trio instrumentation of trumpet, upright bass and percussion, but for this show the group will add Kanoa’s warm and distinctive melodic voice on the tenor sax. Kanoa is counted among the state’s most intrepid jazz wizards, while also being a central figure in the world music scene here. The group will present new compositions, new arrangements, and a few tricks up its collective sleeve. Warm up with a fun, family-friendly afternoon of music that is equally listenable and danceable. Last year was sold out, so get your tickets now!

About What the What: Formed in 2013, this powerful jazz-funk trio consists of J.Q. Whitcomb on trumpet, Jon Gagan on bass, and Robby Rothschild on percussion.  The group focuses on performing original compositions rooted in deep grooving funk, additionally infused with the individual musical strengths of each band member.
