Free Leonard Peltier: Friends of Indian Art Screening

April 11 @ 2:00 pm

“Free Leonard Peltier” is a 2025 American documentary film, directed by Jesse Short Bull and David France. The film profiles Leonard Peltier, the American Indian Movement activist who spent 49 years in prison for a controversial disputed conviction of murdering two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in 1975, before having his sentence commuted to house arrest in 2025, just one week before the film’s premiere.

Jhane Myers (Comanche/Blackfeet), producer, is an Emmy award-winning filmmaker. Her role as a creative producer on “Free Leonard Peltier” centered on her commitment to authentic Indigenous storytelling and her ability to guide a project with deep cultural responsibility. Known for her meticulous research and her dedication to representing Native experiences with accuracy and dignity, Myers helped shape the documentary’s creative and ethical framework.

Through her stewardship, “Free Leonard Peltier” aims not only to document a landmark case but also to highlight broader issues affecting Native communities. Myers’ influence ensured the documentary was both artistically compelling and culturally principled. The film was chosen as an Official Selection for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Please join us on April 11 for a special screening of “Free Leonard Peltier” and the opportunity to have a conversation with Jhane Myers about this important documentary.

This is a FREE event with RSVP. Donations to FIA are appreciated!
