20 Days in Mariupol

August 25 @ 11:15 am

As the Russian invasion begins, an AP team of Ukrainian journalists trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol struggle to continue their work documenting the war’s atrocities of the Russian invasion. They are the only international reporters who remain in the city.

Ukrainian filmmaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mstyslav Chernov offers a window into the practices of conflict-zone reporters and an unflinching, anguishing account of the 20 days he and colleagues spent covering Mariupol. After nearly a decade covering international conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war for The Associated Press, this is Mstyslav Chernov’s first feature film.

The film draws on Chernov’s daily news dispatches and personal footage of his own country at war. It offers a vivid, harrowing account of civilians caught in the siege, as well as a window into what it’s like to report from a conflict zone, and the impact of such journalism around the globe.

The film is a @frontline and @AssociatedPress collaboration. The documentary, which premieres at CCA and other select theaters this summer, comes to PBS this fall.
