Santa Fe, New Mexico – June 26, 2023

The Center for Contemporary Arts (CCA) is pleased to announce a July 21 event to celebrate the exclusive 35mm debut of Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated Oppenheimer film, starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh, Emily Blunt, Gary Oldman, and Florence Pugh.

Oppenheimer will screen daily at CCA from July 21 through August 10 the way Christopher Nolan wants you to see it – on actual 35mm film. CCA will be running its 35mm projectors for the duration of this film’s run, and is the only theater in New Mexico authorized to do so!

To celebrate the occasion, CCA will host a 4pm special event in conjunction with the 6pm Oppenheimer screening on July 21 – an event that commemorates the unique local history that inspired the film and the production crew that brought it to life right here in New Mexico!

The two-hour catered event will feature:

Two special guests from the Oppenheimer film crew – Dennis Muscari, the location manager, and T.C. Townsen, his assistant location manager – who will give a behind-the-scenes account of bringing this film to life in New Mexico.

Actress Ali McGraw reading memories of two women who witnessed history here – Dorothy McKibbin, the “first lady of Los Alamos” who greeted arrivals from her office at 109 East Palace Avenue in Santa Fe, and Edith Warner, who operated a café near her home at Otowi Bridge on the way to Los Alamos.

Paul Barnes reading historic accounts of The Manhattan Project, drawn from his experience editing the seven-part PBS series, The War.

Santa Fe’s Salud! will cater the event, offering guests a special Oppenheimer cocktail, sangria, hors d’oeuvres, and a taste of history – Edith Warner’s famous chocolate cake that the Los Alamos scientists and families loved!

CCA’s ticketed event, which starts at $50 per person, includes both the 4pm special event and the 6pm Oppenheimer film on July 21. The special event will be held in CCA’s gallery building, located next to the CCA Cinemas at 1050 Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Tickets are available at ccasantafe.org at this direct ticketing link.
