Call Me A Pussy

July 15, 16, 17 & 22, 23, 24 | $25-$40
U.S. Premiere – Exclusive, Limited Engagement

This July, CCA presents the U.S. premiere the latest performance from award-winning artist, Laura Stokes, with CALL ME A PUSSY. For two weekends in July, CCA’s gallery will be transformed into a stage where Stokes will enact an unforgettable performance that is a timely spectacle to behold. CALL ME A PUSSY subverts expectations and untangles stereotypes as Laura Stokes embodies and satirizes eight archetypal characters to challenge sexism, individualism, and nationalism.

Hilarious, poignant, and impactful, CALL ME A PUSSY draws influence from early Burlesque movements with its female-lead political satire in an accessible, entertaining format. With hair suspension, brave characters, acrobatics, and otherworldy body puppetry, this one-woman circus will transport Santa Fe audiences into a world of make-believe and heart-wrenching honesty.

“Stokes moves through transmutations so intricate, so far removed from what the everyday body can do, providing a whole new language and potential for emotion.”

Accompanying her performance will be an exhibition of visual works created in collaboration with artist Kate Russell. The series, SUBVERT, operates as an extension of the themes, characters, and issues explored in the staged show. The collaboration between performer and photographer allows both artists to utilize each other’s skill and artistic mediums to further illustrate the absurdity of capitalism, power structures, and the simple act of being a woman in today’s world.

HoneyMoon Brewery will host a cash bar, and doors open at 7pm, showtime begins at 8pm.
