Call Me A Pussy

July 15, 16, 17 & 22, 23, 24 | $25-$40
U.S. Premiere – Exclusive, Limited Engagement

This July, CCA is proud to premiere the latest performance from award-winning artist, Laura Stokes, with the U.S. debut of CALL ME A PUSSY. For two weekends in July, CCA’s gallery will be transformed into a stage environment, where Stokes will enact an unforgettable performance that is equal parts comedy, contortion, virtuosic feats, and variety show.

CALL ME A PUSSY subverts expectations and untangles stereotypes as Laura Stokes embodies and satirizes eight archetypal characters to challenge sexism, individualism, and nationalism. This one-woman performance will transport Santa Fe audiences into a world of make-believe and heart-wrenching honesty. Hilarious, poignant, and impactful, CALL ME A PUSSY draws influence from early Burlesque movements with its female-lead political satire in an accessible, entertaining format. With hair suspension, puppetry, music, and otherworldly contortion, Stokes’s latest is a timely spectacle to behold.

“Stokes moves through transmutations so intricate, so far removed from what the everyday body can do, providing a whole new language and potential for emotion.”

Chicago Tribune, Laura Molzahn

Accompanying her performance will be an exhibition of visual works created in collaboration with artist Kate Russell. The series, SUBVERT, operates as an extension of the themes, characters and issues explored in the staged show. The collaboration between performer and photographer allows both artists to utilize each other’s skill and artistic mediums to further illustrate the absurdity of capitalism, power structures, and the simple act of being a woman in today’s world. The exhibition will be on view through the run of the show. HoneyMoon Brewery will host a cash bar, and doors open at 7pm with showtime beginning at 8pm.
