Drive My Car

One of 2021’s most buzzed-about films finally makes it to CCA this week!

Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Drive My Car, based on the acclaimed Haruki Murakami story, is a multi-layered drama about self-acceptance and regret that topped several critics’ year-end lists. It just won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and took home Best Screenplay at Cannes as well. The film follows Yūsuke Kafuk, a stage actor reeling from the loss of his wife, and his new chauffeur with whom he forms a reluctant bond. The film is in some ways an elegiac road movie that has netted almost universal critical acclaim. The Guardian called it, “engrossing and exalting” in their five-star review.

Also this week, Asghar Farhadi’s fine-tuned debt drama A Hero continues its successful run due to popular demand.

It’s another week of highly personal drama at CCA, featuring two contemporary classics of the form from around the world—exactly the kind of programming we get excited about alongside our supportive audience.

Thanks, as always, for your considerable support during uncertain times. We continue to strive to make CCA your hometown arthouse theater and offer a safe, comfortable movie-going experience with strict adherence to COVID safety protocols. Please join us this week to see truly world-class cinema in your own backyard!
