INTRO TO VIDEO PRODUCTION:
SHOOTING & EDITING
July 5 - 8
Mon - Thurs | 6:00 - 8.30p
$200 | $180 for members
This class is an introduction to sophisticated video camera controls, guerilla audio recording techniques, and the basic principles of photographic composition. The major assignment in this class is a photo roman—a series of still images paired with a sophisticated sound track. Working in small groups, and employing 3-CCD Mini-DV camcorders, students will conceptualize, shoot and edit their original projects with Final Cut Pro 5 editing software.
FOUND CINEMA
July 19 - 23
Mon -Thurs | 6:00 - 8.30p
$200 | $180 for members
prerequisite: intro to final cut pro or basic fcp understanding
Since the early days of cinema, motion picture artists have usurped footage recorded by others, for economy of means, and as a tool for creative expression or social commentary. In this class, students will investigate the work of motion picture artists who utilize found-footage as a resource material for creating collage-based, cinematic works. Employing tools such as Final Cut Pro 5, and by downloading resources from media banks such as Archive.org, students will create original “found-footage” short videos within this sixsession, studio-based course.
TEEN SUMMER WORKSHOPS
AUDIO DESIGN FOR THE MOVING IMAGE
AGES: 13-17
June 28 - July 2, 9:00 - 12.30p
$200 | $180 for members
Starting from scratch, and working in small groups (with Marantz hard disk recorders, shotgun and cardioid microphones and Final Cut Pro editing software), students will create original audio scores for a predetermined short movie or a scene from a movie. Working with a mentor-artist, students will develop sensitive listening skills, a more informed vocabulary for talking about sound design, and will practice professional approaches to field recording and post-audio production.
Animation studio
July 12-16
Mon - Thurs 6:00 - 8.30p
$200 | $180 for members
Join us for a hands-on workshop in animation production. We’ll begin with an introduction to the history and terminology of animated media and an exciting survey of internationally famous animators’ works that will provide students with the context for creating their own short animated movies. Utilizing an inexpensive and well-designed software program called iStopMotion, and working in small groups, students will design, animate and capture short animated videos which will be paired with original sound tracks and edited in Final Cut Pro 5 by the end of the course.
