Social Media in the Arts – Panel Discussion
Wednesday, August 12 // 6-8p // CCA Living Room // FREE
Can social media function as an artistic medium? Last year artist Richard Prince presented a new body of work at Gagosian gallery in New York sourced entirely from Instagram. With prints selling for $90,000, the argument for and against appropriation has once again surfaced. The controversy surrounding appropriation is peppered with questions regarding the ethics and uses of social media in an art context. Join Kate Ware (Curator of Photography at the New Mexico Museum of Art), Jessamyn Lovell (New Media Artist), Talia Kosh (New Mexico Lawyers for the Arts) and Luke Fitch (Filmmaker, Altitude FX) for a panel discussion about how social media is blurring the lines of authorship in contemporary art.
