Balancing Signal To Noise
Balancing Signal to Noise
spector ripps project space
May 24 - July 7, 2013
OPENING: May 24, 6-8pm
Balancing Signal to Noise is a small group exhibition featuring works by Zoe Blackwell, Brandon Soder and Betsy Emil, who each approach line, orientation and space in two dimensions. Guest curated by Winston Riley, this collection of drawings and photographs evidences a place lost, a thought nearly manifest, a dream turned memory. Illusive yet speculative, abstracted but familiar, Balancing Signal to Noise speaks to the limits of orientation.

Vector Field
CCA Munoz Waxman Main Gallery
May 24 - June 30, 2013
OPENING RECEPTION: May 24, 6-8pm
In conjunction with Currents 2013, Albuquerque-based artist Conor Peterson presents Vector Field, a mysterious sound-and-light sculptural installation invokes the darker secrets of the universe. Equal parts science fiction and science fact, the room-sized sculpture is a meditation on the fluid interplay between familiar surroundings and the cosmic sublime. In the context of Currents, Peterson sees Vector Field as an opportunity to question the interactive nature of technology-driven art. For the fourth year, Currents will bring together the work of established, unrecognized and emerging New Media artists, from New Mexico, the US and the world, for events showcasing interactive and fine art video installations, multimedia performances and web based art forms. Making Places
CCA Muñoz Waxman Galleries
July 12 - September 22, 2013
Making Places is at once a retrospective, a new commission, a 3D instruction manual, and an intimate examination of what it takes to develop an art-driven life. Linda Fleming and Michael Moore have been married for decades; their life together is a pastiche of homes they've built, schedules created, rules made, places cultivated, practices evolved, dogs loved, friends lost, meals shared, and first-and-foremost, art produced. The exhibition features handmade spaces, collected objects, designed audience experiences, and also the couple's remarkable paintings, drawings and sculptures.
Make Out Sessions
September 27, 2013
CCA invites 30+ artists to make outside of the studio, doing what they do best while the public watches. In hour-long sessions, groups of artists will create individual mini-masterpieces to be auctioned that same evening. With an amazing line-up of live music, a fleet of food trucks, amazingly affordable art, and the region's best artists, everyone makes out. Stay tuned for more details! This will be Santa Fe's party of the year!
Atomic Surplus
CCA Muñoz Waxman Galleries
October 11 - December 8, 2013
Atomic Surplus is a multi-faceted project that examines what it means to live in the birthplace of the atomic bomb. Through art that addresses not only New Mexico identity, but also the larger realms of science, environment, war, activism, fear and hope, Atomic Surplus will consist of a major group exhibition; film series; lecture series; two artist-led field trips; hands-on, field-based children's education program; essay-driven exhibition catalog; and online archive.
ICEPOP
CCA Muñoz Waxman Galleries
December 20 - January 26, 2014
Santa Fe-based emerging artists Sandra Wang and Crockett Bodelson make up the collective SCUBA. In honor of winter and of the fleeting arctic, but also as an opportunity to create a series of fun adventures and cool spaces, SCUBA presents ICEPOP, a newly commissioned, multi-pronged project that examines the cross-over between pop culture and global warming. An ice-inspired cave installation doubles as an amphitheater for a music and performance series and is augmented by a retail store featuring multiples made by emerging artists, field trips to cold places, a film series, and a panel discussion about the trends of arctic exploration in recent art.
